A space that revitalizes community life with identity and sustainability
Located in the Model Village of Carballeda de Avia, Galicia, this rural regeneration project transforms an old home into a community gathering space, becoming the Muimenta Social Center.
By integrating traditional architectural elements and contemporary solutions, the design reinforces local identity and fosters entrepreneurship, culture, and tourism.
NEED
The proposal submitted to the ideas competition proposed a phased development, focusing on heritage restoration, integration with the surrounding environment, and energy efficiency.
APPROACH
The restoration of the stone walls and wooden structure preserved the original essence, while the opening of multipurpose spaces fostered a connection between the interior and exterior.
The creation of an interior courtyard, derived from the presence of a large pre-existing stone, defined the paths and use of the spaces on the ground floor, establishing a fluid and functional circulation.
SOLUTION
The combination of traditional materials with contemporary solutions reinforced the architectural identity and improved the overall sustainability. Plant pergolas, natural ventilation systems, and bioclimatic strategies optimized comfort and reduced environmental impact, ensuring an efficient and landscape-friendly design.
