Experiential luxury in a contemporary key

BERRY’S CENTER, MORE THAN A SHOPPING MALL, A NEW-GENERATION ICON

In the heart of the Emirati desert, Berry’s Center emerges, an architecture that blurs the lines between experience, design, and functionality. A high-standard shopping complex, where every line of its geometry engages with the local culture through a sculptural envelope that combines climate efficiency, identity, and sophistication.

NEED

The project arose from the need to create a luxury retail space that combined profitability and a distinctive emotional experience. The client required an iconic building that, in addition to meeting the extreme conditions of the desert environment, would also attract an exclusive and diverse audience. An integrated retail concept was proposed, bringing together contemporary design, high-profile brands, and architecture that would add symbolic and climatic value to the complex.

APPROACH

The design strategy is based on a volumetric design with broken and twinned contours that, in addition to creating a powerful image, reduces direct sunlight and improves the building’s thermal performance.

The interior layout is articulated around a large central void bathed in zenithal light, which organizes circulation and enhances spatial perception. A radial layout of uses was proposed with a flexible organization and controlled scale, allowing for a versatile range of brands and events without compromising fluidity or comfort. The exterior landscape, featuring strategically placed palm trees and bodies of water, improves the microclimate, accompanies the journey, and marks the entrances.

SOLUTION

To achieve an architecture that offered more than just commercial spaces, we worked from the symbol: the general plan is based on the geometry of a “protective hand” reinterpreted as a cultural gesture.

We designed an abstract envelope of large white planes with black stripes that, by day, emphasize the geometry, and by night, are illuminated by dynamic lines.
A fluid layout was prioritized, centered on interior courtyards, fountains, and meeting places that break the linearity and reinforce the sensory experience.

The interiors were conceived as luxury lounges, with warm finishes, indirect lighting, and double heights, integrating iconic brands without losing spatial coherence. Reflective materials, filtering ceilings, and well-oriented envelopes ensure energy efficiency without losing formal expressiveness.

The result is a retail complex that transcends its function, becoming an aspirational destination for visitors and a recognizable architectural brand in its own right.
