ALONGOS RECTORAL RESIDENCE
A BREATH IN THE VINEYARD
A PLACE IN NATURE WHERE HISTORY AND WELL-BEING MEET TO OFFER QUALITY OF LIFE IN A UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT
Near the Miño River and surrounded by vineyards, this former rectory, built in the 18th century, is now a senior residence where personalized care and a family atmosphere are possible thanks to a project that prioritizes the needs of its residents.
NEED
After being unoccupied for more than 20 years, the owners commissioned us to renovate a traditional house into a modern and comfortable community home, adapted for seniors. This home offers them the comfort and convenience of a hotel, while also providing them with the services and amenities expected of a hotel and enjoying a privileged setting.
In this way, we aim to create a flexible and versatile design that will allow for a variety of uses in the future.

APPROACH
The main objective of this project was to meet the needs of the end users without compromising the aesthetics and design finishes of the project. The house, which was in poor condition, still maintained its original structure based on thick stone walls and chestnut wood beams in a very deteriorated state. Considering that this building was a rectory, we challenged ourselves to preserve as many heritage elements as possible.
Our vision was reflected in accessibility and comfort for elderly people with reduced mobility, creating adapted and simple routes. Eight bedrooms were built: four singles and four doubles, with their own bathrooms; there were even multiple medical and social areas. The building also features a covered terrace with views and a large interior courtyard where guests can sunbathe and stroll while enjoying the surrounding nature.
SOLUTION
The renovation was carried out while preserving the original essence of the home, improving its energy efficiency, and paying special attention to the selection of materials, fixtures, and interior design to meet the requirements of a building of this nature in terms of functionality, durability, and end-user comfort, while creating welcoming, serene, and humane spaces.
For greater thermal comfort, low-thickness, low-load underfloor heating was installed, along with an aerothermal heat pump system for air conditioning and hot water. The entire building envelope was insulated, and exterior woodwork with high-efficiency glass enhances the natural light. Acoustically, special attention was paid to the partitioning between rooms, and between rooms and common areas, to ensure the absence of noise that could disturb the rest of the occupants.
